  • Friday 22 July 2022 Water Fun @SFD! Reception class did not get their trip to Southwark park to play in the water on Monday as it was just too hot to be safe. That didn’t stop them enjoying some water play though!
  • Friday 22 July 2022 Year 4 Science Fun! Year 4 used flour, water, sugar and colouring to explore irreversible change and create slime this week!
  • Friday 22 July 2022 Year 6 Sleepover Yes, you read that correctly! Last night some members of Year 6 slept over in the school! After school they enjoyed games, nail painting and karaoke followed by a BBQ cooked by our own fabulous Mark. They had a film, played outside and went to bed around 10pm. We can’t say that’s when they fell asleep though and there were some tired faces this morning! Great fun was had by all! A special thanks to all the staff who stayed after school to support the activities and to Sol, Sam and Mark who slept () in school as well!
  • Friday 22 July 2022 Clay Tile Update Over the course of this term every child had the chance to design, make and glaze a clay tile to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. Kim Parker, the artist that worked with us has taken them all to Forest Hill school so that they can be fired. Here they are in the first stages of the process. You can see the empty kiln and then the tiles in there ready to be fired!
  • Friday 22 July 2022 Year 4 art development This week Fuji Class reflected upon the skills that they have developed this year by creating self-portraits using watercolour and pastels. They have all really grown in confidence as artists.
  • Friday 22 July 2022 Green Card End of Year Awards Well done to all of these children who have kept their cards green for the whole year! That’s an amazing achievement and we are really proud of you. Everyone got a badge in our last assembly this morning.

  • Friday 15 July 2022 Maths in Etna! Etna class have been learning about volume and capacity. They used their understanding of litres and millilitres to measure out the correct amount of hot water and cold water required to make a whole class batch of jelly! We needed 1L and 150ml of hot water and 1L and 150ml of cold water. To make this activity safer and to extend ourselves, we broke the 1L into quarters so measured 4 x 250ml to pour in at a time.
  • Friday 15 July 2022 Year 6 Prom Year 6 had a fantastic celebration on Thursday evening, coming back I their finery for their prom! A huge thank you to al the staff who stayed late and especially to Miss Langridge and her prom committee for all of their hard work in organising and arranging this.
  • Friday 15 July 2022 Bikeability The Year 5 children have been benefitting from cycling training this week! We had two instructors who took the children out in small groups to learn the important skills of cycling and how to stay safe on your bike in the playground and on the road.
  • Friday 15 July 2022 Year 4 Drumming Assembly On Monday morning we were treated to a wonderful drumming performance from Fuji class. They have been learning the djembe drums since February and gave their all in their final performance.
  • Friday 15 July 2022 Miss Haddon Celebration Miss Haddon was a teacher who used to work at our school and had been a member of staff for over 25 years before she left in 2020. Sadly Miss Haddon died recently and the school community came together on Tuesday to remember her with some members of her family. The children all sang, they read memories, performed poetry and shared a slide show of photos. It was a lovely event and we hope we did Miss Haddon proud. I have included our poem at the end of this newsletter.
  • Friday 15 July 2022 School Games Mark We are really proud that we have been awarded the Silver school games mark for all of the active sports we are engaged with in school. This takes into account all of the external competitions we take part in as well as the internal competitions such as our football and netball competitions as well as our activities run by the sports council like the skipping challenge. Huge congratulations to all of the children, without whom this would not be possible and of course to Martin who ensures all the great sports work happens!

  • Friday 15 July 2022 Hot Weather! What a hot week it has been and it is going to get hotter still this weekend and into next week. Please look out for each other, stay hydrated and use a lot of sun cream!
  • Friday 8 July 2022 Year 5 and Year 6 Author Event On Tuesday Year 5 and (some) Year 6 joined a live Book Trust event with award-winning author Rashmi Sirdeshpande. She told us all about her new non-fiction book 'Good News' and why she wrote it during lockdown. She also spoke to us about how to spot fake news and the importance of checking sources and news to make sure that it is trustworthy. At the end, she answered a range of questions from the audience, including her favourite books, recommendations and her first career as a lawyer.
  • Friday 8 July 2022 Faces and Places Year 3 and Year 4 Workshops Olympus and Fuji classes both competed their faces and places workshops with artist Marc today. They looked at pictures of influential people and then created their own portraits using pastels.
  • Friday 8 July 2022 London Youth Games: Y5/6 3v3 Basketball Finals On Monday, Martin took the Y5/6 Basketball team to the Score in Leyton, East London, to compete in the London Youth Games finals.
  • Friday 8 July 2022 Sports Day Results On Wednesday we had an assembly to award the medals to all of our wonderful winners for sports day. Congratulations to everyone who took part for such a fantastic day! Although not everyone got a medal everyone had a great time. All the photos were on last week’s letter.   • Friday 1 July 2022 Book Hut Visit for Year 4 Fuji Class! In amongst all the excitement this week, Fuji even made it to the book hut again!
  • Friday 1 July 2022 Sports Day 2022! What a great day we had in Deptford Park today!

  • Friday 1 July 2022 Year 6 Performance: Hoodwinked! We were treated to a fantastic performance of ‘Hoodwinked’ by Year 6 this week. Who would have thought we had so many talented actors, singers and comedians in just one class

  • Friday 24 June 2022 Year 4 Perform at Songfest! Year 4 children went to Deptford Green secondary school on Thursday to take part in one of Lewisham’s Songfest concerts. They performed with three other school to a packed auditorium singing songs like Build it up and BBQ blues. They were fantastic and we were very proud of them!
  • Friday 24 June 2022 Lewisham School Games Y 5/6 Boys Cricket Finals: 3rd Place! On Wednesday Martin took a team to the Lewisham School Games Y5/6 Boys Kwik Cricket finals at the Catford and Cyphers Cricket Club, and the team finished in 3rdplace!
  • Friday 24 June 2022 Lewisham School Games Y5/6 Mixed Tag Rugby Finals: Shield Competition Winners! On Monday Martin took a team to the Lewisham School Games Y5/6 Mixed Tag Rugby Finals at Whitefoot Lane Playing Fields in Grove Park, and the team came back as the Shield Competition winners!
  • Friday 24 June 2022 Year 2 Makes Pizza at Pizza Express! On Tuesday Year 2 went up to London (by bus!) to make pizzas at Pizza Express on The Strand. They had an amazing time learning about how pizzas are made, choosing toppings and obviously eating pizza back at school! It was very exciting to dress up as chefs!
