Forest Class

The topic this half term will be:

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend with your families! It was lovely to see some of you back at school this week after so long!

I hope you had fun with last week's learning! We are missing you all very much and can't wait to see you again soon :)

Make sure you have a look at the amazing things your friends have been up to on our WOW Board below.

Book of the Week

Last week we watched listened to a nonfiction text about sea turtles. This week we are going to read another non-fiction text. This time our non-fiction book is about starfish. We are going to be focussing on starfishes this week!

Remember a nonfiction text is one that tells you facts and information about the world around you. If it's about something that really happened or something that really exists, it is nonfiction.

Maths

Our focus this week is counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

  • First, we will take part in singing counting in 2s and practise using paired socks to help us count.

Can you get 3 pairs of socks? Can you count in 2s to find out how many socks you have?

Can you get 4 pairs of socks? Can you count in 2s to find out how many socks you have?

Counting in 2s

  • Next, we will take part in singing counting in 10s. Write all the multiples of 10 to 100 on separate pieces of sticky notes or paper (10, 20, 30, 40, etc) Place them in order and ask your child to close their eyes. Take one of the numbers away. Ask them which number is missing, check by practising counting in 10s in order.

Count by 10

  • Then, we will take part in singing counting in 5s. Use some paint and create handprints. One handprint has 5 fingers, how many fingers are there altogether? Count by 5s to find out!

Can you make 2 handprints? Can you count in 5s to find out how many

     fingers there are altogether?

Can you make 3 handprints? Can you count in 5s to find out how many

     fingers there are altogether?

Can you make 5 handprints? Can you count in 5s to find out how many

     fingers there are altogether?

Writing Activity

This week we are going to write facts about starfishes. There are different types of starfish! Then we are going to create our own Guess who book.

  • First complete a fact file. List all the facts under the following headings:
    • Habitat
    • Appearance
    • Diet
    • Other interesting facts

  • Next, make a guess who book! We have learned lots of interesting facts about sharks, sea turtles and starfish. Choose one and write a few sentences to describe your sea creature. Test your friends or family and see if they can guess your sea creature.

Here are a list of websites and videos that you can use to learn more about starfish. Use these to find facts to write about- Remember a fact is a true thing, not something that you make up.

Topic Activities

  • We have learned how to keep safe inside the classroom with our friends. Now we are going to learn how to play some games with our friends that still help us to keep safe.

 Games Apart

  • Watch 'Shark in the Park'. Can you make your very own telescope?

How to make a telescope

  • Let's continue to learn how to sign the Alphabet

British Sign Language - Letters of the alphabet

  • Let's get stretchy with some yoga!

Starfish and Turtle Yoga

  • Sing the song below to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

    Turtle, Turtle

    Turtle, turtle moves so slow,

    Crawling, crawling, watch him go.

At the pond he looks around,

See his head move up and down.

    Turtle, turtle wants to swim,

Now can you make up your own tune to sing the song below?

    Tiny Tim the Turtle

I had a little turtle, his name was Tiny Tim

I put him in the bathtub, to see if he could swim

He drank up all the water, he ate up all the soap

and now he's sick in bed with a bubble in his throat. "Hiccup"

I would love to see what learning you get up to at home, so please send photos to forest@sfdprimary.co.uk  will upload onto the 'WOW Board' for next week for your friends to see! Keep scrolling down to see the WOW Board!
